Lala Lovely

This was my favorite project of 2018. A truly wonderful book by my friend @trina_mcneilly. It was an honor to work with her for (almost) a year to create a visual match to her essays on loveliness—about beauty of all kinds.

I began working on this project in 2017 to do several illustrations; then we worked up a sample chapter to pitch the layout concepts for the whole book. That led to the publisher hiring me to do the full interior layout (thx @faithwordsbooks)! The collab on the cover design came next (Trina, the author, took the pic of the rose for the cover on the floor of her home). It’s been a fun process, with a lot of learning and variety... my ideal. In the second image you can see the gezellig border design (drawn on the #ipadpro with the #procreateapp), which later turned into the end paper pattern (last image). While I obviously geek out about the graphic elements, I can’t say enough about the message and depth of the content...it’s much, much more than a pretty puff piece—you can see it for yourself here. It was released in April of 2018, and is available wherever fine books are sold.
